Prestonfield House is one of Edinburgh’s most beloved venues — a 17th-century baroque mansion in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat, five minutes from the Royal Mile, with resident peacocks roaming the grounds and Highland cattle in the parkland. It sounds like something you’d make up, but it’s completely real, and it makes for a genuinely unforgettable wedding or event backdrop. The Stables Ballroom is the main event space and it’s one of the best DJ rooms in Edinburgh.

There’s already sound and lighting infrastructure installed too, which makes life easier than at many historic venues. Load-in is easy and the team brief you clearly from the start, but it’s still worth coming early enough for a proper sound check — this circular space rewards getting the levels right.

The Stables Ballroom is a circular space with capacity for up to 500 guests — one of the larger ballrooms in Edinburgh. That circular layout means no guest is ever far from the dancefloor, which does wonders for energy and atmosphere. The Assembly Rooms has dedicated supplier access and an experienced events team, which helps enormously given the scale of what you’re setting up for. This wedding DJ Colstoun House booking took us to Colstoun House near Haddington in East Lothian last night, for the reception of Megan and William Ladbrooke — and what a venue it is. It’s a beautifully converted stone barn with a vaulted wooden ceiling and fairy lights strung overhead. The atmosphere transforms the moment the lights go down and the music starts.

Wedding DJ Colstoun House: The Setup

The barn at Colstoun has a generous footprint. That meant we could run the full rig — twin QSC K12.2 mains with dual QSC KS118 subwoofers, LED tube lights and the diamond-frame booth. The stone walls give the sound a wonderful warmth, and the room filled evenly throughout. Setting up before guests arrived was smooth thanks to the excellent venue team.

The Night

Megan and William had everything timed beautifully. Dinner ran smoothly, speeches were heartfelt, and we moved seamlessly into the evening dancing right on schedule. During dinner we kept things warm and conversational, with acoustic covers, jazz and soul at a level that complemented the room without dominating it. Then when it was time to dance, the floor filled fast and stayed full.

A brilliant Scottish wedding crowd — guests of all ages up and dancing, the bride absolutely loving every second of it. We moved through floor-fillers, a few ceilidh classics that got everyone linking arms, and finished the night on a high. Huge congratulations to Megan and William Ladbrooke — what a night.

This wedding DJ French Consulate booking was our first time performing at the French Consulate in Edinburgh. The occasion was the wedding of Camille and Emmanuel and the party for all their guests.

We always like to perform at a venue we have never been to before so were keen to see what was ahead of us at the French Consulate. It is a pretty grand building with some great staff.

Hire an experienced Wedding DJ

Every wedding DJ French Consulate booking starts the same way: the first, and very important, thing to impress us was the lift. This place has a lift! Unlike next door, at the Signet Library, where it almost kills us every time. A nice, easy access in a decent time left us plenty of time to set up our smaller than normal rig into the limited space we had for the night.

The wedding breakfast and dinner were held in the Edinburgh Suite which looks like a conferencing room. By the time the room was all decorated, it looked great.

It was a long day from the set up at 5pm. Dinner at 730 and dancing from 1030 until 130.

Wedding DJ French Consulate: The Music

We have plenty of experience performing at weddings but it is not very often we have been asked to do a full French wedding. Although confident that this would be a successful and enjoyable night, we were a bit apprehensive due to the large number of French songs chosen for the reception.

To best DJ any event there is a need to know and understand the music selection before you. There is a need for the knowledge of how to put certain pieces of music together in the right way. To achieve this there is also a need to know the music pretty well.

Our knowledge of French music is pretty much as good as our French language, limited to a couple of words. So with the help of the bride and groom’s list, we did what we could on the night. We ROCKED it! Unexpectedly the result was exactly as desired by the happy couple.

Everyone attending was just brilliant. Even when trying ceilidh dancing there was great banter and giggles. It is so much harder explaining the dances to people with a limited understanding of English, or our brand of Scottish at least.

Great people, great fun and a very successful night all round.
