DJ at Hopetoun House, South Queensferry — Corporate Events & Private Parties | Premier Disco

1 26th May 2026 by James Veal

As DJ at Hopetoun House, we get to work in one of Scotland’s most spectacular settings. It’s the kind of venue that stops you in your tracks the first time you see it. Many call it Scotland’s finest stately home. The estate itself spans 6,500 acres on the banks of the Firth of Forth. It’s been the backdrop for some of the most extraordinary weddings and events we’ve been part of. If you’ve seen the Outlander TV series, you may recognise parts of the grounds. In fact, the grounds have doubled as a filming location, giving them a cinematic quality that photographs absolutely love.

We’ve performed at Hopetoun House on a number of occasions and it’s a venue we know well — the Adam Ballroom, the Tapestry Room, the Adam Stables, and the sweeping parkland that stretches out to the Firth.

More about the venue at the Hopetoun House website →

Setting Up at Hopetoun House

Setup at Hopetoun takes a bit more planning than most venues, and that’s simply down to the building’s history — you’ll be working closely with the venue team on load-in routes and positioning from the moment you arrive. The Adam Ballroom is the main event space for larger weddings, and it’s grand in every sense of the word, so it’s worth giving yourself plenty of time and getting in touch with the Hopetoun events team well in advance. They’re experienced and genuinely helpful, and they’ll talk you through exactly what you need to know.

The Adam Ballroom at Hopetoun House, set up for a formal event — the venue we cover as DJ at Hopetoun House

The Space — What You Need to Know

The Adam Ballroom is, without question, one of the most impressive rooms we get to work in — high ceilings, ornate plasterwork, and a scale that suits large wedding parties beautifully. The acoustics do need a bit of care, though: the room is live and can turn reverberant at higher volumes, so system placement really matters here. Over the years we’ve learned exactly how to set up in this room to get the best possible sound without losing control of it. For smaller events, the Adam Stables make a lovely, more intimate alternative.

Events We Cover

We cover both corporate and private events at Hopetoun House, and the sheer scale of the estate means it suits everything from an intimate private party to a large-scale corporate celebration. In our experience the Hopetoun team are a pleasure to work with, every time. Take a look at our corporate events page and private parties page for more on what we offer.

Hopetoun House is also predominantly a wedding venue — see Premier Disco Weddings’ dedicated Hopetoun House page for wedding-specific packages and pricing.

Practical Information for Your Event

Hopetoun sits about 30 minutes from Edinburgh city centre, so it’s an easy journey for most guests. The events team are good at managing supplier access and will give you clear instructions on where to load in and park. Because of the building’s history, they also keep a close eye on sound levels, so it’s worth building in a longer setup time than you would at a more conventional venue.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Hopetoun House from Edinburgh?

Hopetoun House is about 30 minutes from Edinburgh city centre, making it an easy trip for most guests.

Are there sound restrictions for a DJ at Hopetoun House?

Yes — sound levels are managed carefully given the historic nature of the building. We know how to work within these restrictions while still filling the dancefloor.

How long does setup take at Hopetoun House?

Longer than at a more conventional venue. The historic building means working closely with the events team on load-in routes and positioning, so we build in extra time.

What events can I book a DJ for at Hopetoun House?

We cover corporate and private events at Hopetoun House, alongside its predominant wedding trade. The scale of the estate suits everything from intimate private parties to large-scale corporate celebrations.

Is the Adam Ballroom suitable for a DJ setup?

Yes — it’s one of the most impressive DJ venues in Scotland, with high ceilings and a scale that suits large wedding parties. The acoustics need care since the room can become reverberant at high volume, which is exactly the kind of setup we’re experienced with. The Adam Stables offer a more intimate alternative for smaller events.

Thinking of Booking Hopetoun House?

If you’re planning a corporate event or private party at Hopetoun House and looking for a DJ at Hopetoun House who already knows the venue, we’d love to talk. We know the venue, we know what works in the space, and we’ll come prepared.

We cover corporate and private events across West Lothian, Edinburgh, and all of Scotland. See our corporate events page for more.

Megan & William Ladbrooke — Wedding Reception at Colstoun House, East Lothian

1 24th May 2026 by James Veal

Colstoun House barn dressed and ready before guests arrived — stone walls, fairy lights and chiavari chairs

This wedding DJ Colstoun House booking took us to Colstoun House near Haddington in East Lothian last night, for the reception of Megan and William Ladbrooke — and what a venue it is. It’s a beautifully converted stone barn with a vaulted wooden ceiling and fairy lights strung overhead. The atmosphere transforms the moment the lights go down and the music starts.

The dance floor at Colstoun House — kilts, energy and the room absolutely packed all night

The barn at Colstoun has a generous footprint. That meant we could run the full rig — twin QSC K12.2 mains with dual QSC KS118 subwoofers, LED tube lights and the diamond-frame booth. The stone walls give the sound a wonderful warmth, and the room filled evenly throughout. Setting up before guests arrived was smooth thanks to the excellent venue team.

The Night

Speeches in full flow — the room full of guests with the wedding cake on a classic whisky barrel

Megan and William had everything timed beautifully. Dinner ran smoothly, speeches were heartfelt, and we moved seamlessly into the evening dancing right on schedule. During dinner we kept things warm and conversational, with acoustic covers, jazz and soul at a level that complemented the room without dominating it. Then when it was time to dance, the floor filled fast and stayed full.

A brilliant Scottish wedding crowd — guests of all ages up and dancing, the bride absolutely loving every second of it. We moved through floor-fillers, a few ceilidh classics that got everyone linking arms, and finished the night on a high. Huge congratulations to Megan and William Ladbrooke — what a night.

Connor & Emma McKenzie — Wedding Reception at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club

1 17th May 2026 by James Veal

Bride and groom lifted high by cheering wedding guests at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club Prestonpans evening reception — Premier Disco Scotland
Connor and Emma lifted high by their guests at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club — a moment that defines the night

This wedding DJ Royal Musselburgh booking took us to Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Prestonpans. On 2nd May 2026, Connor and Emma McKenzie celebrated their wedding reception there. It was a night that nobody in the room will forget in a hurry. A packed dance floor from start to finish, live saxophone, and one of those unmistakably brilliant Scottish wedding moments made this an evening to remember. It set the bar very high.

Wedding DJ Royal Musselburgh Golf Club — A Venue We Know Well

Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Prestonpans is practically on our doorstep. It’s one of East Lothian’s most characterful event spaces, and a venue we thoroughly enjoy working at. The club dates back to 1774, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in the world. The history is there in the fabric of the building, but on a wedding night it simply becomes a warm, well-sized room. It responds beautifully to a big sound system and a crowd who are ready to dance. If you’re considering a wedding DJ Royal Musselburgh booking, our Wedding DJ East Lothian page covers what we offer across the region.

Tom B Sax — The Man in the Red Suit

Connor and Emma chose to add Tom B Sax — performing as The Man in the Red Suit — as live saxophone entertainment alongside the DJ. He opened the evening in style. It’s an addition that transforms the atmosphere in a room almost instantly. The combination of live performance and DJ energy creates something neither can achieve alone. Tom was outstanding all evening, working the crowd and feeding off the energy around him. Nobody was left standing on the sidelines for long.

Loch Lomond — A Wedding DJ Royal Musselburgh Moment to Remember

Every great Scottish wedding has a moment — and Connor and Emma’s came during Runrig’s Loch Lomond. As the song filled the room, every guest sang along at the top of their voices. Their friends and family lifted the bride and groom high in one of those spontaneous, unrepeatable moments that define a brilliant wedding night. You can’t plan for it. It just happens when the music is right and the crowd is right. Everything connects at exactly the right moment.

Packed all night — the dance floor at Royal Musselburgh never emptied

A Crowd Who Were There for Every Song

What set this reception apart was the guests. This was a crowd who were genuinely committed to the night from the first track to the last. The dance floor was full early and it stayed that way. The same people who were dancing at the start were still going strong at the very end. That kind of sustained energy is something special when it happens. It makes every DJ decision land a little better and every moment feel a little bigger.

Congratulations to Connor and Emma McKenzie. It was a privilege to be part of your wedding night. Royal Musselburgh was the perfect setting, and your guests made it an evening to remember for all the right reasons.

Best Wedding Venues in Edinburgh for Live Music and DJs

1 15th May 2026 by James Veal

Choosing the right wedding and event venues Edinburgh has to offer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make — and if great music and dancing matter to you, the venue’s suitability for a DJ or live band should be high on your checklist. After years of performing at weddings, corporate events and private parties across Edinburgh and the Lothians, here’s our honest guide to the venues we rate most highly and the practical things to check before you sign.

What to Look for in a Venue (From a DJ’s Perspective)

Before you fall in love with a venue’s aesthetics, check these practical points — they have a direct impact on what your evening entertainment will feel like:

  • Sound limiter: Many Edinburgh venues have electronic sound limiters that cut power to the DJ equipment if volume exceeds a threshold. Ask the venue directly and read our full guide to sound limiters at Scottish wedding venues for what this means in practice.
  • Dancefloor size: A 6x6m dancefloor handles 50–80 dancers comfortably. Anything significantly smaller and guests start avoiding it — no matter how good the music is.
  • Loading access: Ground-floor access with a clear run from the vehicle to the function room means faster setup and less risk to equipment. Upper-floor rooms with narrow staircases can be challenging.
  • Noise curfew: Many Edinburgh city venues have a 11pm or midnight music cut-off. Know this before you book — particularly if you’re planning a long evening.
  • Ceiling height: Low ceilings limit the effectiveness of moving-head lighting rigs. For the full Silver Package experience, a room with decent height makes a significant difference.

Wedding and Event Venues Edinburgh: Our Top Picks

Archerfield House, North Berwick

One of our favourite venues in the Lothians. The function suite at Archerfield House has great acoustics, a proper dancefloor, and staff who genuinely work with entertainment suppliers rather than against them. The outdoor setting makes it ideal for silent disco extensions too, and the estate grounds give the evening a real sense of occasion. See our East Lothian wedding DJ page for more on venues in this area.

Melville Castle, Lasswade (Midlothian)

A genuinely stunning Neo-Gothic castle setting within 20 minutes of Edinburgh city centre. The ballroom has character and decent ceiling height — important for lighting rigs. Sound limiter is in place in the marquee, with ceiling speakers above the dancefloor — worth knowing in advance, but entirely manageable with experience. We’ve had many memorable nights here and know the room well.

Mansfield Traquair, Edinburgh

Wedding and event venues Edinburgh — Premier Disco Silver Package set up at Mansfield Traquair

One of Edinburgh’s most spectacular event spaces — a restored Victorian Catholic Apostolic Church with stunning murals and extraordinary atmosphere. Acoustically the room can be challenging, but with the right equipment and experience it sounds excellent. The Silver Package works particularly well here given the height and scale of the space. Loading access is via the rear of the building.

Prestonfield House, Edinburgh

A lavishly decorated country house hotel at the foot of Arthur’s Seat. The function rooms are opulent and intimate — better suited to smaller guest lists than large receptions. The venue team are highly professional and the overall experience for guests is exceptional. Sound restrictions apply and are strictly managed.

Edinburgh City Hotel Venues

Hotel function suites across the city centre — from the Radisson Red to the principal Edinburgh ballrooms — offer modern acoustics, flexible capacity, and convenient access for guests staying overnight. These are popular wedding and event venues Edinburgh companies use for conferences and awards dinners too, not just weddings. Many work well for both wedding reception DJ setups and karaoke evenings. The trade-off is that city centre venues often have stricter noise curfews than out-of-town properties.

Questions to Ask Your Venue Before Booking

  1. Do you have a sound limiter, and what is the threshold in decibels?
  2. What time does music need to finish?
  3. Is there a dedicated dancefloor, and what are its dimensions?
  4. How is DJ equipment loaded in — is there lift access or steps?
  5. Are there any restrictions on lighting (lasers, haze machines, UV)?
  6. Can the DJ do a site visit before the event?

If you’re unsure about any of these for a venue you’re considering, feel free to get in touch and ask — we know most Edinburgh and Lothians venues well and are happy to share what we know before you commit. You can also read VisitScotland’s wedding venue guide for a broader overview of Scottish venues across the country.

Ask Us About Your Venue

Wedding and Event Venues Edinburgh: Frequently Asked Questions

Do Edinburgh wedding venues have sound limiters?

Many do, particularly older buildings and those in residential areas. A sound limiter cuts power to DJ equipment if noise levels exceed a set threshold. It’s important to ask your venue directly and to choose a DJ who has experience managing them. Our guide to sound limiters explains everything you need to know.

What time does music typically finish at Edinburgh wedding venues?

City centre Edinburgh venues typically enforce a midnight curfew on amplified music, sometimes 11pm. Out-of-town venues and private estates often allow later finishes. Always confirm the exact curfew before booking both your venue and your entertainment.

Which Edinburgh wedding venues are best for dancing?

Venues with a proper dedicated dancefloor, decent ceiling height, and no severe sound limiter tend to produce the best nights for dancing. Archerfield House, Mansfield Traquair, and many of the larger Lothians venues consistently deliver great evenings. Smaller boutique venues can be charming but may limit the scale of entertainment.

Can a DJ advise on venue suitability before we book?

Absolutely — and we actively encourage couples to ask. We know most Edinburgh and Lothians venues well and are happy to give an honest assessment of how suitable a shortlisted venue would be for the kind of evening you want. Get in touch with your shortlist and we’ll share what we know.

Does Premier Disco cover all the wedding and event venues Edinburgh has to offer?

Yes — we cover the wedding and event venues Edinburgh has, plus the surrounding areas including East Lothian, West Lothian, Midlothian, and the Scottish Borders, for weddings, corporate events and private parties alike. If you have a specific venue in mind, get in touch to confirm availability.

Wedding DJ at Archerfield House East Lothian — Kirsten & Greg Lorenz

1 11th August 2019 by James Veal

This Archerfield House wedding reception, held for Kirsten and Greg Lorenz in East Lothian, was one to remember. The couple flew over from New Orleans with 40 friends and family, absolutely ready to party. From the moment the first dance ended, the energy in the room was electric.

Premier Disco has performed at weddings across East Lothian for many years. Archerfield House is one of the finest venues in the county, and this booking showed exactly why. The setting was stunning, the couple were brilliant, and the crowd were there for a good time. Together, it all combined to make the night one to remember.

The First Dance

The evening opened with two first dances back to back. Ray LaMontagne’s You Are The Best Thing played for Kirsten and Greg. Lee Ann Womack’s I Hope You Dance followed, for the parents. Between them, both songs set exactly the right tone: warm, heartfelt, and with just enough energy to get the room moving.

Lee Ann Womack — I Hope You Dance. The parents dance that followed.

Live Saxophone at Archerfield

Right after the first dances came something a little special. Saxophonist Ben Noir played two live sets, bringing tremendous energy and showmanship to the floor. Weaving a live musician into the evening alongside the DJ works brilliantly for a crowd ready to celebrate. This was a perfect example of it. In combination, the two kept the momentum high throughout the night.

A Night of Eclectic Music

One of the joys of working with a crowd from across the world is the music requests you get. Kirsten and Greg’s guests kept things wonderfully unpredictable — a very eclectic mix that spanned genres and eras. It’s exactly the kind of challenge that makes a night like this genuinely fun to DJ. Thankfully, we had almost every request in the library, so the floor stayed full from first dance to last song.

Archerfield House is one of East Lothian’s most prestigious wedding venues, and one we know extremely well. Wedding DJ at Archerfield Waterfront East Lothian — Pauline & Derek Smith

1 29th July 2019 by James Veal

This wedding DJ Archerfield Waterfront booking took us to East Lothian for Pauline and Derek Smith’s wedding reception. It was a brilliant evening that had the dancefloor packed from the first dance to the last song. As one of Scotland’s finest coastal wedding venues, Archerfield always delivers something special, and this night was no exception.

Premier Disco has provided wedding DJ services in East Lothian for many years. Archerfield is one of our favourite venues to work at. The staff are exceptional and the room has a wonderful atmosphere from the moment guests arrive.

Wedding DJ Archerfield Waterfront: Planning the Perfect Night

From the very first conversation, Pauline and Derek knew exactly what they wanted. They wanted a dancefloor full of guests from start to finish. They wanted music that meant something to them, and a night that felt completely their own. They put real thought into their soundtrack, and it showed. With a bit of imagination on the night, and some great guest requests, it all came together perfectly.

From the very first dance, the dancefloor stayed more or less full to the end of the evening. That’s just the way we all like it to be.

The First Dance

Pauline and Derek cared deeply that their first dance would bring guests onto the floor straight away. They wanted something romantic with the right message, but with the energy to get everyone involved. Andy Williams’ Can’t Take My Eyes Off You was the perfect choice. It opened slow and intimate for the couple. Then it burst into life at exactly the right moment for guests to join in.

Setting Up at Archerfield Waterfront

With a full day ahead, setup began at 11am. That gave plenty of time to get everything exactly right, rather than the usual race against the clock. As a wedding DJ Archerfield Waterfront couples trust, we can say it’s always a pleasure to work at this venue. The team there are among the friendliest venue staff you’ll encounter anywhere in Scotland. That makes a real difference to how the evening flows.
