Choosing a prom DJ Scotland-wide is easier when you start early, because May, June and July are the busiest months of the year for school and student celebrations. Proms, leavers’ dances, graduation balls and end-of-term parties all land within a few weeks of each other, and the venues and the good DJs go early. If you have been asked to organise one, this is for you.

We have been DJing in Scotland for a long time, and we have played for everything from a 200-strong school party at Fettes College to family graduation celebrations. The nights that work best are not the most expensive. They are the ones where somebody thought about the music in advance. So here is how we would plan it.

Prom DJ Scotland: start with who is in the room

A prom or leavers’ party has a very different crowd from a graduation ball, and both are different again from a family graduation lunch. Before you think about songs, think about ages and expectations.

  • Proms and leavers’ dances: a young crowd with strong opinions about what is current. They want to sing along, so recent chart hits and well-known party tracks do the work, with a few older floor-fillers mixed in.
  • Graduation balls: usually a slightly older, dressed-up crowd. A good night often mixes current tracks with the classics everyone knows, and sometimes a ceilidh set for a change of pace.
  • End-of-year and family parties: often several generations at once, so you need a set that works for grandparents and teenagers alike.

Get the music policy agreed early

For school and college events especially, agree the music policy with the organisers before the night. That covers clean edits where they are needed, what is and is not appropriate for the age group, and how requests will be handled. It takes ten minutes to settle and avoids awkward moments later. It is also worth checking the music licensing, because the PPL PRS guidance for education covers discos and end-of-term parties.

Think about a change of pace

However, not every great party is a straight disco. For example, these three options work well:

  • Silent disco. Different music channels at once, so everyone gets the music they want. It also suits venues with noise limits. Take a look at our silent disco hire page.

The practical checklist

  1. Venue and sound limits. Check the finish time and any sound restrictions with your venue early.
  2. Setup time. Tell us about access, power and when the room is available. Because a school hall is often in use all day, it needs a clear plan for setup.
  3. Equipment and safety. We are fully insured and our equipment is PAT tested, which is the kind of thing school and college venues ask for.
  4. Microphone. One is included as standard for private party bookings, which makes speeches, awards and announcements simple.
  5. Running order. If you have a presentation, a photo slideshow, a first dance or awards, agree where they fit so the music keeps its momentum.
  6. Length. Most bookings are four to five hours of DJ time, and we can adjust to suit your venue and curfew.

When to book

May, June and July dates fill up, and venues for proms and graduation balls are often booked many months ahead, so lock in your prom DJ Scotland booking early too. If you are planning an event for next May, June or July, now is a good time to ask about your date, and the earlier the better.

Spring is when the diary for team days starts to fill, and garden games team building is one of the easiest ways to get a day right. The clocks go forward, the evenings get lighter, and somebody in the office says, “We should do something together this year.” If that someone is you, and you have been handed the job of organising it, this is for you.

We run a lot of full-day corporate events across Scotland, and the ones people talk about afterwards are rarely the most elaborate. They are the ones where everyone, from the new starter to the managing director, ended up laughing at the same thing. Here is how we put those days together.

Why garden games team building works

Giant garden games are the easiest icebreaker we know. Nobody needs instructions, nobody needs to be sporty, and nobody is put on the spot. For example, colleagues who never speak in the office end up on the same team trying to stop a giant Jenga tower falling over.

A simple shape for a garden games team building day

Many of our corporate clients book the whole day, not just the evening. For example, a typical format looks like this:

  • Arrival and early afternoon: giant and garden games set out as a relaxed, low-pressure start. People arrive, grab a drink and drift towards a game.
  • Mid-afternoon: a team activity, such as a SpeedQuizzing quiz where teams answer on their phones and the leaderboard updates live, or a gameshow-style game like Quizzy Fortunes.
  • Evening: when the working day winds down, we move straight into a DJ set, a silent disco or a ceilidh.

Don’t forget Plan B for the weather

This is Scotland, so a garden games team building day outdoors needs a backup. Most of our games work indoors or outdoors, and for anything outside we always recommend having a covered area available, such as a marquee, canopy or function room. If the weather turns, the games can be moved quickly, and checking the Met Office weather warnings in the days before helps you make that call early. Making it work for everyone

When planning a garden games team building day, here are a few things we would think about:

  1. Group size. Our team social packages start at 10 people, and larger days can run to hundreds. Tell us your numbers early.
  2. Mixed abilities. Choose games that anyone can pick up. Instead, leave the heavy sport for people who ask for it.
  3. Mix the teams. Put people from different departments together. That is where the real team building happens.
  4. Think about the evening. If you want to finish with a party, it is much easier to plan the whole day together than to join two suppliers up.

When to book

Garden games team building days are popular from May through September, so we recommend getting in touch at least three to six months ahead for summer events. If you are thinking of a spring or early summer team day in 2027, now is a good time to ask about dates.

Boozy brunches have become one of the most-booked daytime event formats in Scotland. But while the food and drinks get sorted quickly, the entertainment is often an afterthought — and that is a mistake. The right entertainment turns a nice lunch into a day people are still talking about on Monday. Get it right and you get confetti in your hair, a blow-up guitar in your hand and the whole room screaming along to “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” at 2pm.

Here is a rundown of the best boozy brunch entertainment Scotland has to offer, based on what we see booking well for boozy brunch events across Central Scotland.

1. Music Video Bingo with Props

This is consistently the most popular choice. Banging Bingo has guests marking off songs they recognise as short clips of the original music videos play on a big screen. Competitive, hilarious, and works perfectly while people are still eating and drinking.

The props are what make it. Blow-up mics and guitars land on the tables before the first game starts — so when that power ballad kicks in, your guests are ready. The confetti cannon fires when someone calls house. “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”, “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, “Bohemian Rhapsody” — these become full-on sing-along moments rather than just games. The evening reception room is a manageable size for a DJ rig and takes production well. A white LED dance floor and light-up letters both worked nicely in the space at Demi and Christopher’s wedding, supplied by Instapic. On-site parking makes load-in straightforward. The venue team were accommodating, too, when the wedding breakfast overran and pushed the whole evening back by more than an hour.

The Space — What You Need to Know

As a Stair Arms Hotel wedding DJ, we’ve found the room handles a busy dance floor well and copes fine with a live element layered over a DJ set. We had saxophonist Gordon Bowie playing live for an hour partway through the evening, and the acoustics stayed clean rather than getting muddy — which isn’t always the case in an older building.

Guests entered the evening reception to DNA by Billy Gillies, with the first dance to Teddy Swims’ You’re the One and a father-daughter dance to I Loved Her First by Heartland. The dance floor stayed busy for most of the night, and the cake was cut in front of a flower arch and light-up Mr & Mrs letters. The night wrapped up at 1am with Caledonia by the Libations. That’s a later finish than the typical midnight cut-off, and one the venue supported without any issue.

Do you only play 90s music?

Not unless you want us to! Many events blend 90s classics with other decades — 80s hits, 2000s anthems, current chart music — to create the perfect mix for a diverse crowd. We’re happy to do a full 90s set or weave it in as part of a broader music programme.

How far in advance should I book?

For popular dates — especially summer weekends and the festive season — we’d recommend booking at least six months in advance. That said, we do sometimes have availability at shorter notice, so it’s always worth getting in touch.

Where in Scotland do you cover?

We’re based near Edinburgh and cover the whole of Scotland — from the Central Belt to the Highlands, the Borders, and everywhere in between. Travel costs may apply for events outside our core coverage area; just ask when you enquire.
