50th Birthday DJ at Craigie Hill Golf Club — Heather’s Party

Friday night, we were DJ at Craigie Hill Golf Club, Perth, for a brilliant 50th birthday celebration for Heather. It was a bit of a slow drive up, with roadworks on the way. We’d left in plenty of time though, so we were all set up well ahead of the guests arriving.

Craigie Hill sits on the western edge of Perth, with lovely views out over the city and surrounding hills. You can read more about the club and its function suite here. The clubhouse made for a warm, relaxed setting for the evening. There was also plenty of room for the dance floor once things got going.

Champagne Reception & Background Music

The evening opened with a champagne reception, background music ticking along gently while guests arrived, caught up and settled in. That relaxed start ran through until about 9:30pm. It gave everyone plenty of time to mingle before the party properly got going.

DJ at Craigie Hill: A Slow Start That Soon Picked Up

It took a little while for the dance floor to fill — a familiar pattern at a lot of parties. But once it got going, it really got going. This crowd knew exactly what they wanted: dance tunes, 90s classics and old-skool anthems all night long. No persuading required once the right song landed.

From that point on, the floor stayed packed. Arms in the air, big singalongs, and a genuinely great atmosphere that carried all the way through to 12:30am. Exactly the kind of night that makes the whole job worthwhile.

Wedding DJ at Restoration Yard, Dalkeith Country Park — Timea & Gregor

This Saturday’s wedding DJ Restoration Yard booking took us to Dalkeith Country Park for a lovely, relaxed wedding reception for Timea and Gregor — a couple who’d travelled from Budapest and Scotland respectively, with guests coming from just as far, including a group who’d flown in all the way from Australia. About 70 guests in total, and a genuinely warm, easygoing crowd from start to finish.

Wedding DJ Restoration Yard: Setting Up

We arrived a couple of hours ahead of the wedding breakfast, so we had plenty of time to get everything set up — full sound system, lighting rig, DJ booth, and microphones ready for the speeches. Because this was a dinner-to-dancing booking, we were there from the wedding breakfast right through to the end of the evening.

We provided the microphones for the speeches and handled the announcements to introduce each speaker. After that, we kept things ticking over with background music through dinner, until it was time for the party to properly get going.

The First Dance — Beyoncé’s “XO”

Timea and Gregor chose Beyoncé’s “XO” for their first dance — a warm, romantic choice that suited the relaxed feel of the whole day perfectly.

A Hot Day and a Slow Start to the Party

It was a genuinely warm evening, so the party had a busy start before we lost most of the room to the weather outside — very much a Scottish habit. Whenever it’s not cold or raining, everyone heads outdoors to make the most of it, and this was no exception. However, we had no complaints — it’s exactly what a relaxed wedding like this one called for.

Ceilidh Dancing — Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sergeant & Virginia Reel

We managed to get everyone back inside for some ceilidh dancing — the Gay Gordons, the Dashing White Sergeant, and the Virginia Reel. Because none of the guests had done a ceilidh before, every dance was taught from scratch. Even so, they picked it up brilliantly and kept great time right through all three — a genuinely lovely thing to watch come together with a crowd that started the night with zero ceilidh experience between them.

After the buffet break, some guests had already called it a night — a long, hot day catching up with them. However, the bride, groom, and a good number of the remaining guests turned out to be serious rock fans, so we kept them going with their kind of music until around 11pm, by which point everyone was well and truly danced out.

Winding Down

Around 11pm, we eased into background music, which turned out to be exactly what the bride and groom wanted by that point in the night. In the end, reading the room is most of the job — knowing when a crowd wants to keep going versus when they’d rather wind down gently is a big part of that.

Restoration Yard as a Venue

For wedding DJ Restoration Yard bookings, this venue is a genuine standout. It sits within Dalkeith Country Park’s 1,000 acres, around 20 minutes from Edinburgh — a beautifully reimagined 18th-century stables and courtyard. The reception room, known as The Kitchen, pairs exposed original stonework with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto the park, and seats up to around 90 for a formal dinner before clearing easily into a proper dancefloor. Because it’s such an easy venue for guests travelling from further afield too, it certainly suited this particular crowd.

One of the nicest parts of the day was just how far people had travelled to be there — Hungary, Scotland, and a group of university friends who’d flown over from Australia. There was no pressure and no fuss, just great people from all over enjoying a relaxed, sunny day together — exactly the kind of wedding that’s a pleasure to be part of.

Booking a large corporate event DJ Scotland companies trust is very different from booking entertainment for a small private party. That’s because the scale of the event changes everything. The equipment requirements, the logistics and the planning process all shift once you’re talking about 200, 300 or 400 guests or more. So does the skill required on the night. Here is what to expect, and what questions to ask before you sign anything.

The Planning Process for a Large Corporate Event DJ Scotland Booking

For a large corporate event, the planning conversation should start well before the event itself. Ideally, that means three to six months in advance for a DJ booking, and earlier for everything else. A professional corporate event DJ will want to know the venue, the expected guest numbers and the running order for the evening. They’ll also want the demographic of the audience and the music brief. This is not a box-ticking exercise, however — this information genuinely shapes how the evening is planned and delivered.

Once booked, a good DJ gives you a structured way to submit the music policy, must-plays, do-not-plays and any special requests. For example, our clients use our online planning system to do exactly this, whether that’s six months before the event or the week before.

For a room of 400 people, the sound system that works for a 100-person party is not sufficient. Coverage, clarity and power all need to scale with the room. Getting this wrong creates a poor experience for guests at the back of the room, or worse, distorted sound that damages the atmosphere entirely.

A professional DJ for large events carries equipment scaled to the audience. This includes appropriate speaker arrays with subwoofer coverage for large spaces, and professional-grade DJ equipment with backup solutions. It also includes a lighting rig that creates visual atmosphere without overwhelming the room. At our recent 470-delegate event at The Dome in Edinburgh, for example, equipment planning was a significant part of the pre-event preparation, and it showed in the result. All our equipment is fully PAT tested and we carry full public liability insurance.

Coordinating With the Venue and Event Team

Large corporate events typically involve multiple suppliers — caterers, AV companies, venue staff, event managers, photographers, and potentially live acts. A professional DJ needs to coordinate effectively with all of them. Load-in times, stage or booth placement and power supply requirements all need to be agreed in advance. So do sound limiter thresholds and the running order, and everything needs communicating clearly.

It is worth understanding how sound limiters work at your chosen venue before confirming your entertainment brief. Many Scottish venues, for instance, have limiter thresholds that affect what a DJ can do. Because of this, a professional supplier will factor it into their equipment and planning decisions.

Reading a Large Room

Playing to 400 people requires a different kind of crowd-reading than playing to 80. The energy takes longer to build, and the response to any given track is less immediately obvious. On top of that, the diversity of the audience is typically greater. An experienced large-event DJ knows how to manage this: building the set gradually, and playing to the centre of the room’s taste before introducing more polarising tracks. They also use the response of the guests nearest the booth as a gauge for the broader crowd.

Wedding DJ at The Harbour Chapel, Dunbar — Suzie & Cameron

Saturday 4th July’s wedding DJ Harbour Chapel booking took us to Dunbar — less than 30 minutes from home, and one of our favourite kinds of night: small, personal, and genuinely local. This beautifully restored 1764 former chapel, right by Dunbar’s historic harbour, is a stunning and unusual space for a wedding, with staff who are every bit as good as their reputation suggests.

We had a short wait for the wedding breakfast to finish, so we couldn’t get set up ready for the evening straight away — nothing unusual, and part and parcel of the job. Once in, however, the room came together quickly, with the cake taking pride of place right in front of the setup.

The First Dance — Lifehouse’s “You and Me”

Suzie and Cameron chose You and Me by Lifehouse — a track that starts slowly and gently before building into a lovely bouncy little song that the whole room enjoyed watching. In fact, it’s a great choice, and not one we get asked for nearly often enough.

A Seafront Evening, and a Busy Dancefloor

One quirk of The Harbour Chapel worth knowing: the bar sits in a separate room, a fair distance from the party. Because the weather was decent on the day, plenty of guests were happy to step outside for a bit of fresh seafront air between drinks — Dunbar’s harbour setting makes that an easy sell on a warm evening. However, none of that got in the way of the party — the dancefloor was busy for most of the night.

A South African Contingent — and the Scots Joined Right In

As wedding DJ Harbour Chapel bookings go, this one had an unusually international flavour. Cameron is originally from South Africa, so there was a good number of guests over from there, and a few tunes played especially for them across the evening — Ricus Nel and Kurt Darren both made an appearance. Even so, the Scots in the room, being the party animals they are, weren’t going to be left out and joined in enthusiastically throughout — exactly the kind of mixed, warm crowd that makes for a great night.

Everything was wrapped up by midnight, and we were home by 1:30am. We really like local weddings for exactly this reason — a decent bed time makes all the difference. So we woke up fully rested on the Sunday after a busy week, ready to catch up on admin. It’s honestly what we live for.

Wedding DJ at Meldrum House, Oldmeldrum — Katie & Ryan

Friday 3rd July’s wedding DJ Meldrum House booking took us north to Oldmeldrum, just outside Aberdeen — a 153-mile drive from home and one of the longer trips we make. This 13th-century baronial mansion, set on 240 acres of parkland with a ballroom built for celebrations, makes it easy to see why it’s such a popular choice for couples in the North East.

Wedding DJ Meldrum House: Setting Up

We left home at 2pm and arrived on site at 5:30pm, giving ourselves plenty of time to get set up before the evening got underway. Because the wedding breakfast was running a little behind schedule, we had a short wait before we could get into the ballroom — not unusual on a wedding day, and nothing to worry about. Timings shift for all sorts of reasons, so a good wedding DJ builds in the flexibility to roll with it.

Katie and Ryan chose Take My Hand by Skerryvore for their first dance — a brilliant, invigorating choice that had every guest up and watching. In fact, it’s exactly the kind of big, warm Scottish folk-rock that lands perfectly as a first dance, and it set the tone for the whole night.

Ceilidh Dancing — The Gay Gordons and the Virginia Reel

We had two ceilidh dances on the night — the Gay Gordons and the Virginia Reel. Because Katie and Ryan’s guests mainly already knew both, life was easier as a caller: instructions landed quicker, the floor got moving faster, and there was more time for the fun part rather than the explaining part.

A Generous Dancefloor

It was a good night with a genuinely generous amount of dancers throughout. There could always have been a few more up — there are always some guests at any wedding who just aren’t dancers, and that’s perfectly fine — however, the floor stayed busy from the ceilidh right through the evening disco.

Wedding DJ Meldrum House: The Venue

Meldrum House sits further north than most of the venues we cover, so it’s a proper drive from our base — but the venue makes it worthwhile every time. Because the ballroom handles a full-scale wedding comfortably, with plenty of room for a proper crowd on the dancefloor, we’d happily recommend it to any couple planning a wedding in Aberdeenshire.

The Long Way Home

Everything was wrapped up by midnight, and after packing down we were away by 1am. Because of numerous detours from roadworks, it was a long drive home — the scenic way through a fair few B-roads and small villages meant we didn’t make it back until 4am. So it was a long day all round, but a well-earned sleep came before moving straight on to Saturday’s wedding.
