Prestonfield House is one of Edinburgh’s most beloved venues — a 17th-century baroque mansion in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat, five minutes from the Royal Mile, with resident peacocks roaming the grounds and Highland cattle in the parkland. It sounds like something you’d make up, but it’s completely real, and it makes for a genuinely unforgettable wedding or event backdrop. The Stables Ballroom is the main event space and it’s one of the best DJ rooms in Edinburgh.
We’ve performed at Prestonfield House on a number of occasions and it’s a venue we have a lot of time for. The team are excellent, the room is brilliant, and the whole place has a theatrical quality — from the Witchery-style interiors to the peacock that occasionally appears at the window mid-set. Setting Up at Prestonfield House
The Stables Ballroom has good supplier access and the Prestonfield team are organised and welcoming. The room has built-in sound and lighting infrastructure which makes setup more straightforward than in many historic venues. Load-in is easy and the team will brief you clearly. Come early enough to do a proper sound check — the circular space rewards getting the levels right.
The Space — What You Need to Know
The Stables Ballroom is a circular space with a capacity of up to 500 guests — one of the larger ballrooms in Edinburgh. The circular layout means no guest is far from the dancefloor, which helps enormously with energy and atmosphere. The built-in sound infrastructure is good and the acoustics of the space are excellent for a room of this age. Uplighting here is particularly effective given the architecture.
