It’s the result of high standards applied to every aspect of how we work, including the DJs we choose to work alongside us. Here is exactly what we look for — and why each quality matters.

Professional Equipment Is Non-Negotiable

The first thing we ask any prospective partner DJ is what equipment they own and run. This is not small talk — it tells us immediately what level of events they can handle and what their standards are. A DJ who has invested in quality professional-grade equipment has skin in the game. They care enough about their work to back it with proper kit.

For us, professional equipment means a quality main PA system with appropriate subwoofer coverage, a reliable backup solution, and a professional DJ controller or CDJ setup. It also means a lighting rig that can transform a room without looking amateur, and PAT tested and certificated kit — every piece of equipment, every year, without exception. Most of Scotland’s best venues require this as a condition of entry, so a DJ who is not PAT tested cannot work the events we handle.

Insurance — The Bare Minimum, Done Properly

Full public liability insurance to a minimum of £5 million is an absolute requirement for any mobile DJ partner Scotland venues will actually let through the door. This is not optional, and it is not negotiable. Every reputable Scottish venue requires it, and any DJ operating without it is exposing themselves and their clients to serious risk. If you’re a DJ reading this who doesn’t yet have PLI, sorting this out should be the first thing on your list. Experience You Can Demonstrate

We want to know where you have worked, what kinds of events you have delivered, and what the feedback has been. Not because we want to catch people out — but because experience genuinely matters in this job. A DJ who has played twenty corporate gala dinners handles the unexpected differently from someone who has only done birthday parties. That depth of experience shows on the night, and our clients deserve DJs who have already learned the hard lessons somewhere else.

Reviews matter too. If you have a strong track record on Google, Facebook or a wedding directory, share it. Real feedback from real clients is the most honest indicator of what working with you is actually like.

Musical Knowledge — Broad and Deep

We do not want DJs who know one genre well. We want genuine knowledge across the musical landscape — soul, funk, Motown, 80s pop, 90s dance, RnB, indie, current chart, Scottish ceilidh, Latin, and everything in between. Moving fluently between genres and eras, and reading the crowd rather than following a fixed playlist, is what separates a good DJ from a great one.

And it means staying composed when things do not go exactly to plan — because in live events, something always does not go exactly to plan.

Professionalism is also about attitude. The DJs we work with take every booking seriously regardless of size, location or fee. There are nights that remind you exactly why you love this job. This corporate event DJ Edinburgh booking took us to The Dome in Edinburgh for one of them. It was a spectacular end-of-conference celebration for 470 delegates, full of energy, great music, and some genuinely brilliant moments. Premier Disco was proud to be part of it, working alongside the team at Reeltime Events.

Corporate Event DJ Edinburgh: Setting Up at The Dome

Setup began at 6:30pm. With a room the size of The Dome and 470 guests expected, getting the atmosphere right from the very first arrival was the priority. That means background bar music that’s warm, relaxed and social — the kind that fills the room without dominating it. For two and a half hours, the vibe was exactly that: a buzzing, well-catered space. Delegates could unwind after a full day of conference sessions and start the evening in the right headspace.

The Dome is one of Edinburgh’s truly iconic venues. Whether you’ve been there a hundred times or it’s your first visit, that stunning interior always draws a reaction from guests the moment they walk through the door. The ornate ceilings, the marble columns, and the chandelier-lit grandeur make quite the entrance.

Pipedown Band — Scottish Tradition with a Modern Twist

At 9pm, the evening shifted gear with a live performance from the Pipedown Band. If you haven’t seen them, you are genuinely missing out. Their set was an extraordinary blend of traditional Scottish music, including a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne. It was delivered with a high-energy, contemporary edge that had the whole room buzzing. It’s the kind of performance that gives you goosebumps — deeply familiar, yet completely fresh.

For a corporate crowd at the end of a long conference day, it was the perfect icebreaker. Cultural, impressive, and utterly alive. By the time Pipedown took their final bow, the room was electric and the delegates were fully ready to party.

Then it was over to us — the corporate event DJ Edinburgh team for the night. From 930pm through to 1am, the dancefloor barely emptied.

The music policy for the night had some wonderful variety in it. Alongside the usual party favourites and classic RnB, there was a generous helping of Latin music — samba, salsa, irresistible Latin pop. A well-placed sprinkling of French music was thrown into the mix too. It’s always a pleasure playing to a crowd who appreciate something beyond the predictable playlist. This audience was absolutely up for every twist and turn the night took.

The feedback throughout the evening was overwhelmingly positive. Many guests stopped by the booth to say how much they were enjoying themselves. That reaction never gets old, no matter how many events you’ve done.

The final track played at 1am. The derig was complete and everything was loaded into the van by 2:15am — a clean, professional finish to a brilliant night’s work.

A corporate event DJ reads the room in exactly the same way as at a wedding, but the audience and brief are different. Corporate guests are often colleagues or industry contacts rather than close friends and family. That means the warm-up period matters more, and the music policy needs to bring a diverse crowd together quickly. The ability to blend background music seamlessly into full dancefloor mode is something we do at every event we play, adjusting that transition based on how the room is feeling.

Can you work alongside live acts like a band or piper?

Absolutely — and it’s something we genuinely enjoy. Last night’s event with Pipedown Band is a great example. We handle background music while guests arrive and socialise. The live act does their set, and then we take over for the main DJ portion of the evening. The transitions are smooth, the overall experience feels premium, and the two elements complement each other brilliantly. What kind of music works best at a corporate event?

It depends entirely on the brief, the demographic and the tone of the event. That’s why we always have a proper conversation before any corporate booking. Last night’s mix of Latin, French, RnB and party classics worked perfectly for this particular crowd. Other events call for something more focused, perhaps a 70s and 80s set, a pure pop night, or a themed playlist that ties into the conference content. We’re experienced enough to make recommendations, but flexible enough to build the night around whatever works best for your guests.

How far in advance should we book a corporate event DJ in Edinburgh?

For large corporate events — particularly those at premium Edinburgh venues — we’d recommend booking as early as possible. Dates at top venues fill up quickly, and the best entertainment suppliers go with them. Six to twelve months in advance is ideal for events over 200 guests. Do you provide sound and lighting equipment for large venues like The Dome?

Yes — we carry professional-grade sound and lighting equipment scaled to the size of the venue and the number of guests. A room like The Dome holding 470 people requires a very different setup from a smaller private event. We plan accordingly. Everything from speaker placement and subwoofer coverage to lighting rigs and DJ booth setup is considered well in advance. On the night, it simply works — and works well.

Race Night for Kenyan School Supplies — Sighthill Bowling Club, Edinburgh

This Race Night Sighthill fundraiser ran on Friday 16 May 2026, when Premier Disco hosted a charity race night at Sighthill Bowling Club in Edinburgh. It raised funds for Kenyan School Supplies, a fundraiser which Ashley Cornachan organised to provide resources for a school in Kenya. The night was one of the best attended and most successful race nights we have run this year.

Race Night Sighthill: How the Night Ran

The venue was beautifully decorated with Kenyan flag balloons in red, black, white and green — a brilliant touch by Ashley’s team that gave the whole night a real identity. With a packed room from early on, the atmosphere was exactly what you want from a charity race night.

Throughout the evening, the big screen showed racing, with the electronic tote system handling all the betting. The tote desk was busy from the first race — guests were queueing to place bets and the energy stayed high all night.

The Tote and Fundraising Results

The tote table produced a £1,000 profit on the night — well above the average for a race night of this size. In fact, that figure alone reflects how engaged the crowd were with the betting — it was only part of the overall fundraising picture.

The raffle was a huge success, raising a significant sum on top of the tote profits. In addition, race sponsors contributed: guests and local supporters sponsored individual races and horses. It’s a format that adds another fundraising stream and gives sponsors a fun moment in the spotlight when their race is called.

Race Night Sighthill: The Tote Board and Technology

The electronic tote system managed all betting throughout the night, with race information displayed on the big screen. Once the tote closes for each race, it calculates and reveals the odds. That’s the moment before the off when the whole room finds out what their horse is running at. As any race night regular knows, the outsider winning the auction race always creates the biggest moment of the night.

The DJ Set

After the final race, Premier Disco moved into a full DJ set to close the night. In fact, the feedback was excellent — James received numerous compliments on both the race night production and the music. When the DJ set gets as many compliments as the racing itself, you know the whole evening has landed well.

Melville Castle, Lasswade (Midlothian)

A genuinely stunning Neo-Gothic castle setting within 20 minutes of Edinburgh city centre. The ballroom has character and decent ceiling height — important for lighting rigs. Sound limiter is in place in the marquee, with ceiling speakers above the dancefloor — worth knowing in advance, but entirely manageable with experience. We’ve had many memorable nights here and know the room well.
