Glasgow Science Centre is one of the most striking event venues in Scotland — a landmark building on the banks of the Clyde with panoramic views of the city and a main hall that genuinely takes your breath away. I’ve had the pleasure of providing DJ and ceilidh entertainment here for corporate events, and it’s a venue that delivers on every level.
The Venue
Glasgow Science Centre sits on the south bank of the River Clyde, directly across from the SEC and the Hydro. The main event space is a versatile hall that can be configured for gala dinners, award ceremonies, product launches, ceilidhs, and corporate parties. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the river and the Glasgow skyline — it’s a backdrop that adds real atmosphere to any event.
The venue is technically impressive too — good acoustics, a proper stage area, and a team that knows how to work with entertainment providers. As a DJ and ceilidh caller, it’s a straightforward space to work with: clear sightlines, room for a full dancefloor, and the kind of energy that comes from a crowd who are genuinely impressed by where they are.
Entertainment I Provide at Glasgow Science Centre
I provide a range of entertainment options that work particularly well in this venue:
- Corporate DJ — background music during drinks receptions and dinner, building to a full dance set for the evening. I work from a full professional rig including Denon MC7000 controller, PA, and lighting.
- Ceilidh Calling — Scottish ceilidh dancing works brilliantly at corporate events. It gets people on their feet, mixes up tables and departments, and creates the kind of shared experience that people talk about for months. I call all dances clearly and keep the energy high throughout.
- DJ and Ceilidh Combination — the most popular option for Scottish corporate events: a ceilidh set to get everyone mixing, followed by a DJ set to keep the night going. Usually around 45 minutes ceilidh, then DJ until the end.
- Race Night / Quiz Night — hosted evenings for team-building or fundraising events. Great for larger groups where not everyone will want to dance.
Why Ceilidh Works So Well at Corporate Events
One of the challenges of corporate entertainment is getting people out of their comfort zones — getting them away from their usual colleagues, off their phones, and genuinely engaged with each other. A ceilidh does this better than almost anything else.
The progressive nature of most ceilidh dances means everyone rotates partners and groups throughout. By the end of a 45-minute set, your finance director has danced with someone from operations, your newest recruit has shared a Strip the Willow with a board member, and everyone has laughed together at least twice. That’s team-building you can’t manufacture any other way.
I call all dances clearly and at a pace that works for a mixed-ability group. Nobody needs any experience — I walk everyone through the steps before the music starts, and I call throughout so nobody gets lost. It’s one of the most inclusive forms of entertainment I know.
My Setup at Glasgow Science Centre
I bring a full professional DJ and entertainment rig: Denon MC7000 controller, Serato DJ Pro, PA system sized to the space, and a lighting package that complements the venue’s existing production. Everything is self-contained — I don’t need the venue to provide any audio equipment.
