Our First Quiz at The Old Colliery
This was our first visit to the Old Colliery after replacing the previous quiz company. It is unfortunate that having replaced a very unprofessional company I inherited a poor turnout. It seems many of the quizzers were put off by some serious shortcomings by the previous company.
I aim to put this right, just get yourselves back to the Old Colliery and I guarantee you will have a great time.
Night and Day
‘What you just did is like night and day compared to the last lot’, is a comment from the management at the venue. He continued, ‘I love the format and presentation and hopefully we will get our people back again’.
We had only 4 teams for our first quiz and every one of them thought it was a great concept and quiz and they would be back.
The theme for the first quiz was Harry Potter. The usual mix of letter rounds, buzzing rounds, multiple choice, music and pictures over a number of rounds culminated in The Deathly Hallows being our very first convincing victors. Congratulations go to these ‘nerdy’ girls, or should I say one nerd, who knows everything Harry, and two others.
Special note for the nerd, you were right the owl was in fact called Hermes. Not that I doubted your knowledge for a single second!
We are continuing with a monthly quiz but we are changing the format a bit. Instead of having a themed quiz, we will go forward with a normal pub quiz. Rounds will be very much varied and will include music, movies, sport, in fact, anything. There will be a bit of everything in the mix.
A themed round may be added from time to time which will coincide with some current event. Things like sporting events, newly released big named movies, current events and basically anything which happens that will make an interesting round will be used.
As part of the quiz, we do a couple of games which change from time to time. The current games are, Open The Box with a jackpot of £100 and Deal or No Deal, £50. The jackpots will grow over time. For example the Open The Box jackpot at the Cuddie Brae on Thursday nights currently stands at £570.
To be able enter the games you must be a player taking part in the quiz on the night.
The next quiz will be on Wednesday July 24th at 7pm
It will be great to see you there and to get to know you better. Remember to bring some friends along.
Let the banter begin!
I hope you don’t have thin skin!
